The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Action Game Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Comes After Poor Feedback
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a more defined direction.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to better meet community desires.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
The news mirrors a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire message from the president's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a sharper vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s poised to achieve its potential to our fans.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of the team. After several months of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having dedicated the recent years developing and managing some of the most popular series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in welcoming him soon. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.
The President
Experience of the Incoming Head
Brinkman presently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had stints at other industry leaders.
Game Details and Vision
Project Ethos was announced in last year alongside a public demo. At the time, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling advancement on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Take on the opponents with new abilities, stakes, and challenges that evolve every round. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, put it on the line, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
Project Ethos does not have an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but players can anticipate additional details as production advances.
